5 Simple Ways To Keep Your Office Clean
The office is the second home for a lot of people. It’s important that the office is clean, both for the sake of employees and visitors. No one wants to work in an unhygienic environment as it sets a negative impression of the organization if the office is untidy. With the amount of activity going on inside the office, it is bound to get untidy and dirty.
Below are a few simple tips to help you keep your office clean without much effort and time.
1. Take care of paper
Paper is one of the biggest reasons behind a untidy office. Reports, sticky notes, unused paper, outdated documents are commonplace in any office. All of these tend to accumulate and cause the office to become untidy.
This needs to be taken care of regularly. It doesn’t even take a lot of time to do it.
If all employees spend at least minute or two sorting through papers present on their desk each day, keeping the ones that are needed and throwing away the ones that aren’t takes, paper will never be an issue.
Furthermore you can also sort paper in the right bins and recycle them!
2. Organize your pens
Similar to paper, your office is also bound to have a lot of pens, out of which only a small percentage write, and a smaller percentage which are used. These pens cause unwanted mess in the workspace and aren’t conducive to the overall cleanliness of the office.
Throwing away pens after they stop writing should be common practice in the office.
Having one, or at the most two backup pens is alright, but does one really need five pens when all they use is one?
It might not be a good idea to throw away pens that work though, so you can dedicate a drawer or box to store pens that write so that your office stays tidy.
3. Sort out your stationery
Stationery items are also something that contribute to the untidiness of a workplace. They are important for any office, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s very improbable that you need ten staplers, five tape dispensers, and multiple markers of every colour for the same office.
Keep only the stationery items that are necessary, and try to limit your stationery items to only what you need. Excess stationery is redundant, useless and makes the workplace untidy, so you should sort it out the best you can, as soon as you can.
4. Clean your monitors and keyboards
Monitors and keyboards are usually the most used commodities in any office, and more often than not, they are also the most neglected.
Dusty monitors and keyboards are not good for health, and can cause illnesses. They’re breeding grounds for germs, especially the uncleaned crevices of the keyboard, and regular cleaning is necessary so that your office is in the best possible condition.
Wiping monitors regularly is a must. Keyboards are a little harder to clean, but if you can get your hands on canned air, it’s a very easy way to clean between the keys and keep your keyboard clean.
5. Be careful about food
Food is one of the biggest reason for untidiness of an office. Food messes don’t just look bad, they also smell bad and can cause serious health concerns for the employees. Food is also a need though, and sometimes work may necessitate eating in the office.
Try to lay down papers or sheets whenever you eat in the office. Throw away any food that you don’t eat, don’t store it in the fridge where you may forget about it. The office administration can also make it a point to clear out the fridge regularly, maybe once or twice a week. Food spills should also be dealt with as soon as possible.
