4 Common Carpet Stains (And How to Deal With Them)
Carpets are important commodities in offices. They require cleaning, of course, but they provide safety, stability and comfort for offices. They also increase the visual aesthetics of any office. But like any good thing, they can also have some downsides, one of which is that they stain too easily.
However, carpet stains can be dealt with if they’re taken care of immediately.
Discussed below are a few common carpet stains, and how to deal with them.
1. Juice and Sodas
Cold beverages such as juice and sodas might not be commonplace in the office, but they might see their way into them from time to time. Although they are popular, the stains they leave can be difficult to remove from the carpets.
How to deal with it: First, use a dry towel to blot the initial spill. Rubbing or smearing will worsen the stain, not remove it. It could also cause it to spread to the carpet pad underneath, making the situation worse. After the spill has been blotted, use a verified commercial cleaning product to remove the stain. Make sure that the cleaner is tested, lest it leave a stain itself.
2. Coffee spills
Coffee is one of the most widely consumed drinks in any office, with many employees relying on it to keep them sharp. However, with so much use, stains might be more commonplace than anticipated. Coffee will leave behind unsightly brown stains on the carpet, which will make it look unaesthetic and messy.
How to deal with it: The first step here is to blot the spill with a dry cloth first again. Rubbing the spill will again make it worse, so avoid doing that. After blotting the stain, use household cleaning products, like vinegar or detergent to clean it up.
3. Blood
Blood spilling onto the carpet is more common than one might think. Blood can be spilled due to various reasons, like nosebleeds, accidental injuries or worse. Speed is of the essence while dealing with bloodstains.
How to deal with it: Blood needs to be cleaned immediately, or else it will stain permanently. Use cold water, plain dish detergent and paper towels. Even though it might take a while, persistence is the key to making sure it does not stain the carpets permanently.
4. Ink
Ink stains might get on the carpet due to a variety of reasons, from broken printers to pens that spew out ink. Getting ink out of carpets is a little difficult, but it can definitely be done.
How to deal with it: Use rubbing alcohol to wet a cloth and dab it gently on the ink. Try hairspray or nail polish remover to deal with the residue. Be careful about these chemicals though, because they might stain the carpet permanently too. Rinse with water and dry it by blotting it or vacuuming it.
